Dhammadipa is a vipassana meditation center in the Theravada tradition,
following the line of Mahasi Sayadaw.
The center was founded in 2010 as Dhammadipa Meditation Center Amsterdam. From 1992 to 2010 the meditation center was called Sangha Metta, under the management of Jotika Hermsen, and prior to that it was run by the late Mettavihari.
Dhammadipa is open to:
- Those in search of purpose and liberation; Those who seek to improve the quality of their current insights by following the example of Buddha: the original teacher.
- Those aiming to train the mind and educate the heart through meditation en studying the teachings of the Buddha: the Dhamma.
- Those in search of a community of practitioners, who wish to aid each another on their individual paths of spiritual development: the Sangha.
Dhammadipa is a non-profit foundation, disseminating the essence of Buddha’s teaching in Amsterdam and the Netherlands, operating solely on donation basis (dana).
From our perspective, liberation of the individual can only be attained through one’s own efforts. Vipassana practice is the embodiment of self-commitment to achieve this liberation.
