The central focus of these exercises is to generate a heightened sense of awareness and alertness of what is experienced by the body and mind from moment to moment\, at any moment. \nIn general\, the practice will help the student to accept reality as it is\, to develop patience\, endurance and determination. \nVenue for all sessions is Karunika\, Meerhuizenplein 38\, Amsterdam. \n\n7 Wednesday evenings\, from 17 april to 5 june (17\, 24 april – not 1 May – 8\, 15\, 22 and 29 may\, 5 june)\, from 18:30 until 20:30.\nCourse material is handed during classes.\nMaximum 12 participants. We can then invite the next person on the waiting list.\n\nPlease note the measures against Covid-19 / Corona \nFrom our point of view on buddhist ethics Covid-19 is a risk for teachers and participants as well as for those present to contaminate others. In this we have chosen to follow the guidelines of the government. As of 11 march 2023 the government has ended all Corona measures. That is good news .  See https://www.government.nl/topics/coronavirus-covid-19/tackling-new-coronavirus-in-the-netherlands/preventing-respiratory-infections. \nCurrently\, the advice is limited to preventing respiratory infections.  Following the advice below helps limit the spread of viruses that cause respiratory infections. This helps protect everyone\, including people with health concerns. \nAdvice \nCoughing\, sneezing\, a sore throat and a stuffy or runny nose are signs of respiratory infection. \n\nStay at home if you are ill.\nIf your symptoms are mild\, stay at home or do a selftest of good quality\, with negative result and max 24 hours before the meditation activity. In case of doubt a new selftest is mandatory\, which will be provided by Dhammadipa.\nIf you have symptoms\, avoid physical contact with people who could become seriously ill from a cold or flu virus. Wear a face mask if physical contact is necessary\, for example\, when providing care.\n\nFor questions and comments please mail info@dhammadipa.nl. \nDana \n\nCosts:  € 75 for the course (fixed price).\nAt the end of the course\, there will also be the opportunity to donate extra for the meditation guidance and teachings.\nThe dana can be offered via a bank transfer to the Dhammadipa\, Amsterdam account number NL85 INGB 0005019113\, mentioning ‘vic april 2024’.\nThere is also a dana box so that you may offer dana in cash.

SUMMARY:Vipassana meditation weekend with attention for the mind 9 - 10 march - day 1
DESCRIPTION:The meditation weekend is suitable for all those living in Amsterdam and the surrounding area\, who are interested in getting acquainted with or deepen their practice of Vipassana meditation. \nRegistration is required.  Guidance by Marc Heijmerink\, one of the teachers of Dhammadipa. \nThe Vipassana meditation weekend is based on the approach of ‘attention for the mind’\, cittanupassana and inspired by the approach of Sayadaw U Tejaniya. \nMeditation is an activity of the mind\, in his words.  We meditate with the mind\, not with our body and actually all foundations are to be found in our mind.  Our problems as well as the solution to our problems are found in the mind. \nIn the Satipatthana sutta the 4 foundations of mindfulness are mentioned: mindfulness on the body\, feeling\, mind and dhamma’s. In the weekend there will be instructions on the means to use the mind as a foundation of mindfulness.  Themes that will be addressed will be:  preference / aversion and ignorance in the mind\, right insight\, relaxation in meditation\, right effort and investigation in meditation. \nVenue for all sessions is Karunika\, Meerhuizenplein 38\, Amsterdam. \nDaily schedule\n\n9:45 – 10:00 Arrival and welcome\n10:00 – 12:30 meditation session 1 (walking and sitting)\n12:30 – 13:30 lunch – a vegetarian / vegan lunch is provided\n13:30 – 15:30 meditation session 2 (walking and sitting)\n15:30 – 16:00 pause for refreshments\n16:00 – 17:00 meditation session 3 (sitting)\n17:00 – 18:00 Q&A and Dhamma talk\n\nParticipation\n\nThere is space for maximum 12 participants.\nYou may also join for one day.\nIn case the weekend is fully booked\, you can ask to be placed on a waiting list.\nIf you are unable to attend\, please inform us as soon as possible. SUMMARY:Intensive 10-day Vipassana meditation retreat 15-25 February 2024
DESCRIPTION:From 15 to 25 February 2024 an intensive 10-day Vipassana meditation retreat will be organised under the guidance of Aad Verboom. \nFor whom: the retreat is open to everyone who wishes to do an intensive 10-day Vipassana meditation retreat\, beginners as well as experienced meditators. Beginners are required to have followed a Vipassana introduction course in the tradition of Mahasi Sayadaw or have similar experience\, to be assessed by the teacher. \nGuidance: Aad Verboom is connected to Dhammadipa as a teacher\, for more details see www.verboomtraining.nl (Dutch text only). \nTradition and practice: Aad Verboom practises Vipassana meditation in the tradition of Mahasi Sayadaw and from the ‘direct method’. In the direct method there is emphasis on the development of mindfulness (sati) and the corresponding ‘momentary concentration’. There is no or less need for deeper concentration. If meditators develop or wish to develop more concentration during their practice\, this is okay\, in consultation with the teacher. \nWithin the tradition of Mahasi Sayadaw intensive practice is mostly done by alternately doing the sitting- and walking exercises. In this retreat we practise 24 hours per day (sleeping included). You practise mindfulness in the sitting\, walking\, standing and lying postures and during all other activities such as eating\, brushing your teeth etc. This makes the practice uninterrupted\, relaxed and natural. \nFacilities: \n\nYou have your own room but we also practise together in the meditation hall\, during the day and evening\, alternately sitting and walking. Every evening there is a Dhamma talk and every day there is a short talk (interview) with the teacher.\nThe venue is very suitable for the intensive practice of meditation. As in July 2022 we stay at the Sisters of Denekamp – Zusters van Denekamp | Home.\nThe food is vegetarian\, with a warm lunch and in the evening a light meal. Dietary wishes can be fulfilled within the limits of reason.\n\nRegistration:   \n\nIf you are interested. send an email to info@dhammadipa.nl and a registration form will be sent. Read carefully\, fill in\, sign and mail it. \nRegistration is based on order of entry of the registration form. \n\nIf you have any questions\, please send an email to aad.verboom@gmail.com. We can email\, phone or make a physical or Zoom appointment. \nGeneral information: \n\nDate: 15 to 25 February 2024\nVenue: Zusters van Denekamp te Denekamp\, Zusters van Denekamp | Home.\nGuidance: Aad Verboom\nCosts: ongeveer Euro 850.\nNumber of participants: max 15.\nDana: at the end of the retreat there is occasion to give dana for the guidance and/or to Foundation Dhammadipa.

SUMMARY:Vipassana meditation weekend with attention for the mind 30 sept - 1 oct – physical - day 1
DESCRIPTION:The meditation weekend is suitable for all those living in Amsterdam and the surrounding area\, who are interested in getting acquainted with or deepen their practice of Vipassana meditation. We have therefore chosen to limit access to physical activities to those who can show themselves to be protected.  This according to the measures of the Dutch government (https://www.government.nl/topics/coronavirus-covid-19/covid-certificate).   \nIf you wish to join\, make sure you can show: \n\nthe Corona check app with the QR code\, or\nthe ‘yellow book’\, filled in by the GGD or your general practitioner\, or\nproof of a PCR test with negative result which is not older than 36 hours\, or\ntest yourself with a self test of good quality\, with negative result\, done no longer than 24 hours before the event.  Since the latter option is hard to show or prove\, we will trust your personal statement on the matter.  In case of doubt a new self-test is required\, provided by Dhammadipa.\n\nWe are aware of the fact that in this way proof of protection against Covid-19 does not include proof from ‘alternative’ or ‘non-regular’ medicine. We hope that this will be possible in the near future.  For questions and comments please e-mail info@dhammadipa.nl. \nDana\n\nThe meditation weekend is being offered on the basis of dana (a voluntary contribution); with a suggested amount of € 35 per day.\nAt the end of the day or weekend\, there will also be the opportunity to donate extra for the meditation guidance and teachings.\nThe dana can be offered via a bank transfer to the Dhammadipa\, Amsterdam account number NL85 INGB 0005019113\, mentioning ‘vipassana meditation weekend september 2023’.\nThere is also a dana box so that you may offer dana in cash.\n\n

SUMMARY:Vipassana meditation weekend with attention for the mind 25 - 26 march - day 1
DESCRIPTION:Monthly Vipassana meditation weekend in Karunika\, Meerhuizenplein 38\, Amsterdam. \nThe meditation weekend is suitable for all those living in Amsterdam and the surrounding area\, who are interested in getting acquainted with or deepen their practice of Vipassana meditation. \nDana\n\nThe meditation weekend is being offered on the basis of dana (a voluntary contribution); with a suggested amount of € 35 per day.\nAt the end of the day or weekend\, there will also be the opportunity to donate extra for the meditation guidance and teachings.\nThe dana can be offered via a bank transfer to the Dhammadipa\, Amsterdam account number NL85 INGB 0005019113\, mentioning ‘vipassana meditation weekend january 2023’.\nThere is also a dana box so that you may offer dana in cash.\n\n

SUMMARY:Special Satipatthana Vipassana weekend retreat 22 - 23 october – Adi Ichsan - day 1
DESCRIPTION:Special Satipatthana Vipassana weekend retreat in Karunika\, Meerhuizenplein 38\, Amsterdam. \nIntended for more experienced meditators of Vipassana meditation as taught by Mahasi Sayadaw.  Registration is required.  The sessions will be guided by Adi Ichsan. \nIn this weekend\, emphasis is placed on how to practice the Contemplation of Disgust (organs and limbs meditation) and the Elements Contemplation in Vipassana\, as described in the Mahasatipatthana Sutta. \nMost of us have started naming “rising-falling” when following the abdominal breath without realizing that in the Satipatthana the emphasis is not on the mental label of “rising-falling” but on the direct recognition of the involved physical consciousness. \nTherefore\, the recognition and specific awareness of elements and organs/limbs is essential to stay on the Vipassana trajectory and not let the meditation turn into residing in calmness. \nThe point of this approach is to help you realize that you are not a monolithic entity but a conglomeration of smaller entities that all arise\, operate and disappear through specific laws of inter-dependencies. This makes the consciousness more inclined to accept the fact that there is actually no “self” unless you start imagining it yourself. \nDaily schedule\n\n9:45 – 10:00 Arrival and welcome\n10:00 – 12:30 meditation session 1 (walking and sitting)\n12:30 – 13:30 lunch – a vegetarian / vegan lunch is provided\n13:30 – 15:30 meditation session 2 (walking and sitting)\n15:30 – 16:00 pause for refreshments\n16:00 – 17:00 meditation session 3 (sitting)\n17:00 – 18:00 Q&A and Dhamma talk\n\nParticipation\n\nThere is space for maximum 10 participants.\nYou can only participate for the entire weekend.\nIn case the weekend is fully booked\, you can ask to be placed on a waiting list.\nIf you are unable to attend\, please inform us as soon as possible. We can then invite the next person on the waiting list.\n\nPlease note the admission requirements related to Covid-19 / Corona \nFrom our view on Buddhist ethics\, we see Covid-19 as a risk for the supervisors and participants\, but also as a risk to infect others. We have therefore chosen for this moment to limit access to physical activities to people who are demonstrably protected. This is in accordance with the guidelines of the central government (https://www.rijksoverheid.nl/onderwerpen/coronavirus-covid-19/corona proof). \nIf you want to participate\, make sure you can show the Corona check app with QR code. Alternatives are a ‘yellow booklet’ completed by the GGD or general practitioners or a PCR test or high-quality self-test with a negative result\, which is done a maximum of 36 hours in advance. \nWe are aware that proof of protection against Covid-19 from ‘alternative’ or ‘non-conventional’ medicine is not accepted. We hope that this will be the case in the foreseeable future. For questions and comments\, please send an email to info@dhammadipa.nl. \nFinally\, government guidelines have been largely relaxed\, but there is still a high number of infections. Dhammadipa therefore chooses to continue to use the above policy for the time being.r now. \nDana\n\nThe meditation weekend is being offered on the basis of dana (a voluntary contribution); with a suggested amount of € 35 per day.\nAt the end of the day or weekend\, there will also be the opportunity to donate extra for the meditation guidance and teachings.\nThe dana can be offered via a bank transfer to the Dhammadipa\, Amsterdam account number NL85 INGB 0005019113\, mentioning ‘vipassana meditation weekend october 2022’.\nThere is also a dana box so that you may offer dana in cash.\n\n

SUMMARY:Intensive 10-day Vipassana meditation retreat 16-26 July 2022
DESCRIPTION:The following text is in Dutch and will soon be made available in English.  In the meantime\, Google Translate ?

After the meditation sessions\, there will be ample time to evaluate and discuss how your personal experience compares with theory. \nCombining practice with discussions will help you develop a better understanding of what mindfulness is and what it can bring to your formal practice and daily life. We can then invite the next person on the waiting list.\n\nPlease note the measures against Covid-19 / Corona \nFrom our point of view on buddhist ethics Covid-19 is a risk for teachers and participants as well as for those present to contaminate others. We have therefore chosen to limit access to physical activities to those who can show themselves to be protected.  This according to the measures of the Dutch government (https://www.government.nl/topics/coronavirus-covid-19/covid-certificate).   \nIf you wish to join\, make sure you can show the Corona check app with the QR code.  Alternatively\, you may show the ‘yellow book’\, filled in by the GGD or your general practitioner. Also\, you may show a PCR test with negative result done no longer than 36 hours before the event. \nWe are aware of the fact that in this way proof of protection against Covid-19 does not include proof from ‘alternative’ or ‘non-regular’ medicine. We hope that this will be possible in the near future.  For questions and comments please e-mail info@dhammadipa.nl. \nFinally\, the government has considerably reduced the Corona measures\, but there is still a very high number of contagions.  Therefore Dhammadipa chooses to continue the current policy for now. \nDana\n\nThe meditation weekend is being offered on the basis of dana (a voluntary contribution); with a suggested amount of € 35 per day.\nAt the end of the day or weekend\, there will also be the opportunity to donate extra for the meditation guidance and teachings.\nThe dana can be offered via a bank transfer to the Dhammadipa\, Amsterdam account number NL85 INGB 0005019113\, mentioning ‘vipassana meditation weekend june 2022’.\nThere is also a dana box so that you may offer dana in cash.\n\n
